At the end of a day when the temperature reached 14 degrees the birds are singing beautifully just before dusk. Robins, Song thrushes, Wrens and Blackcaps were heard tonight along with the sound of 3 Green woodpeckers and numerous Rooks going about nest building/repairing. The Dawn Chorus is often spoken of, but the Dusk chorus is also worthy of note. It is also at a more convenient time of day presently.
Skylarks have been seen. As they are ground nesting birds, dog owners are now requested to PLEASE KEEP DOGS ON LEADS. The UK Skylark population has fallen dramatically recently. We value our Skylarks and wish them to breed successfully and then to see numbers increase.
The breeding season runs from now until end of August. Dogs can then roam freely, as in the past.
